Turbo Minivans - "I gotta get me one of these!"

Call me crazy, but turbo minivans have been an interest of mine ever since I was a kid. My parents had a minivan, and the thought of making one really fucking fast by either upgrading the naturally aspirated engine, or adding a turbocharger sounded really cool. As I grew up, I realized that these things are all over the place.

Obviously at the age of 20, I have better things to spend my money on (i.e. rent, food, and beer) but I've been reading stories over at turbominivan.com that seriously make me want to pick up a minivan at some point in my life, and slap a turbo on it. Can you imagine the look on someone's face when they hear your minivan's engine screaming with 15 psi of boost? I can.

Still thinking turbo minivans are a joke? Well, they're not. Here's a video of a Plymouth Voyager absolutely smashing a Firebird on the track:


And here's a video of a turbo Plymouth Voyager (possibly the same one?) just barely losing to a Subaru WRX:


So in conclusion, if you pull up to a red light and there's a dude in a minivan beside you, you don't know what he's got under the hood! And to all the haters who are saying "yeah, but it's an ugly-ass minivan," I say shame on you all. It's the ultimate sleeper, and I'd totally like to own one (not as my daily driver, of course).

    I love a good sleeper, mini-van included. My friend had a mini-van in high school - God I wish I knew which model - and it actually had a stick shift. Hand-me-down from his dad. We called it Tonsa Fun, cuz, well, it was.

    i used to have a van like this, then it just started fucking up every month, so i sold it for a 150 bux.

    Love this sort of hidden energy under the dashboard and then like a crack of thunder they're gone and eating your dust, they did this on Top Gear recently but with a Ford Transit van with a jaguar engine and 2 turbo's.

    my little corsa is turbo charged - best money i ever spent. Looks like a little a little unassuming run about....but absolutely kicks ass of the lights

    I actually like the Chrysler Pacifica sadly they quit making them(kinda minivan suv crossover look) wouldnt mind seeing one of them with turbo.

    holy crap, those things seem sweet but I've never seen one in person. That is amazing I would pick one up if I had the money for sure. That's gotta be alot of force!

    i've never been one to drive a sleeper. i like some show with my go. but a sleeper minivan would be pretty fun. i'd go extreme with it and do as much weight reduction as possible, try and slap in a rotary turbo if it'd fit right...could be pretty great but i don't have the money for that.
