Even people who aren't mechanically-inclined know that only a retard doesn't change his oil. But what actually happens if you neglect to perform regular oil changes on your vehicle? I sent Das Auto`s senior news correspondent, Yuri Bonergarden, to find out the answer to this question.
Yuri was able to contact one unfortunate gentleman who literally ran his BMW 60,000KM without an oil change, and this gentleman shared pictures of his engine with Das Auto.
First, we'll have a look at the oil pan. Nasty! It's amazing the engine could still run!
Next, the car's owner (who shall remain nameless) showed us the backside of the cover.
To get technical, your engine will be filled with sludge. Your engine simply can't run properly with all this crap. The owner of this particular car will be cleaning his engine for a while, and even after rigorous cleaning, it's not certain that it can ever function at optimum efficiency ever again.
Kids, our senior news correspondent, Yuri Bonergarden, says "NO" to improper engine care.
My idiot friend had an Accord that he drove 160,000KM on between oil-changes. I wish I took pictures of that sludge.
ReplyDeletelol Yuri Bonergarden is one hell of a correspondent.
ReplyDeleteshit i ithought that was Mr. Bonergardens' dinner!
ReplyDeleteWow this is really bad. I hope a lot of people learn from this picture to change their oil so often!
ReplyDeleteThat's crazy! This is a great reminder!
ReplyDeleteWow, I'm surprised it can get that dirty.
ReplyDeleteI had a friend who worked as an auto tech at a dealership, and one day this chick brought in her car for an oil change. She told him she was so excited that her car even had a warning light to change the oil. My friend said, uh, your car doesn't have that. Turns out it was the low oil light, which was flickering because she had gone about 30,000 miles without a change.
ReplyDeleteNeedless to say, her car was destroyed. And needless to say, she was not so excited anymore about her oil light.
@ A Beer for the Shower,
ReplyDeleteIn light of your comment, this post is now dedicated to any women drivers that happen to stumble upon this blog.
Revolting!
ReplyDeleteThat's horrible, on a lighter note Das Auto! you are my car/vehicle guy and this is probably a stupid question but I bought a 28mm scale Ford Transit yesterday for my zombie/modern gaming, is it called a Transit in America and are they popular over there.
ReplyDeletePoor engine!
ReplyDeletei'll change my oil right now :o :o
ReplyDeletedamn that looks like mud. impressive it ran 60,000km on that.
ReplyDeleteluckily i have no car :D
ReplyDeleteI used to be RELIGIOUS 3500 miles - oil change. Now I follow the computer and ignore the 3 month rule. I think my little g6 pushes 7500 miles.
ReplyDeleteI'm guilty of not changing the oil often enough...I'll try and be better after this
ReplyDeleteWell, glad to know Im never going to make that mistake :D also I really love that Yuri guy, I hope to see more of him !
ReplyDeletebe right back, changing oil.
ReplyDeleteI may not know anything about cars, but that looks like a really bad engine. Is that really what happens if I don't change my oil? grosss
ReplyDeleteMany companies try to push the "3000 mile rule" on you, but in reality, this isn't the best policy to follow. Oil has to "break in" from new to become the best lubricant it's able to be. By replacing it too late, obviously the oil has broken down into the sludge you see in the pictures, but by replacing it too soon, you're replacing your engine's lubricant when it's at it's best performance capabilities. I've always stuck to a "4-5000" mile rule, depending on the amount of hard driving I've done on my cars.
ReplyDeleteJust for the love of GOD, don't let that happen to your car!!
Following and supporting!
Garage Zoku
nice shock tactic haha. i never knew the damage it could do until now.
ReplyDeleteLooks hideous.
ReplyDeleteholy shit thanks for posting... i am not the most car savvy person so this tends to slip my mind.. But this looks like it can become a very expensive problem that can be avoided.
ReplyDeleterandomramblingggg.blogspot.com
it's not hard to change your oil. i usually manage to stay on track with my oil changes, but i change mine myself. if i had to take it to a shop i wouldn't do it nearly as often as i do.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading this, maybe it's time for an oil change lol. That is disgusting though! It's amazing how much crap can build up and it still runs. Good find.
ReplyDeleteLOL that's even worse than this chick I knew in high school who pumped a tank full of diesel into her Toyota.
ReplyDeleteI love the GIF. Don't like the look of that curry though.
ReplyDeletewow, sure does not pay to be lazy.
ReplyDeletethats bullshit. the older, dirtier and longer oil is in an engine the better it works and the faster your car goes.

lol. That looks...DELICIOUS!
ReplyDeletei think I need to get this done...
